Middle Point Engineering brings together more than 25 years of combined knowledge and experience in maritime engineering.
Established as a joint venture between Middle Point and HOFF Partners in Engineering, it combines two complementary strengths. Middle Point contributes a broad maritime network and the ability to organise engineering capacity around a project. HOFF Partners in Engineering provides technical project guidance, quality assurance and acts as the technical point of contact throughout execution.
Together, Middle Point Engineering supports shipyards and maritime suppliers with clearly defined engineering scopes. The team has experience across a wide range of shipbuilding projects, from luxury yacht building to commercial vessels, offshore projects, dredgers and cruise ships.
The objective is straightforward. Engineering should work. Not only on paper, but all the way through to production. Delivered on time, within budget and with a practical approach throughout the project.
Two companies, one shared approach
Within Middle Point Engineering, both organisations have a clear role. HOFF Partners in Engineering focuses on the technical side of the joint venture. As Lars Hofman explains, this includes technical project guidance, quality assurance and acting as the technical point of contact for both clients and engineering partners. The team brings experience from projects with different shipyards, different standards and some of the world’s most demanding luxury yacht builders, as well as smaller and more technically focused yards.
Middle Point focuses on organising the right engineering expertise around each project. As Sander Barten explains:
"Workloads in shipbuilding can vary considerably. Some projects require additional support during busy phases, while others require specialist knowledge for a specific engineering scope. By combining its own engineers with a trusted network of engineering partners, Middle Point Engineering ensures that the right expertise is available at the right moment."
Together with the technical project guidance provided by HOFF Partners in Engineering, this creates a collaboration that combines technical oversight with the flexibility to support projects where and when it is needed.
Helping shipyards remain flexible
Workload is rarely constant in shipbuilding. Some periods are extremely busy, while others are quieter. According to Lars Hofman, outsourcing engineering work has become common practice across the industry. Middle Point Engineering responds to this by combining internal engineering capacity with specialist partners for specific scopes or larger projects. This allows shipyards to keep their own organisations lean while still being able to take on multiple projects when opportunities arise.
Good engineering starts with good communication
Technical knowledge is only one part of a successful project. Maarten van Haren explains that communication is just as important. Clients need a technical point of contact who understands the project and can communicate with both the yard and the engineering teams.
For Marcel Kruithof, successful projects are built on good relationships throughout the project.
"Clear communication, proper alignment and realistic expectations help create the conditions to deliver the agreed results while staying within budget."
He also points out that Middle Point Engineering always aims to become part of the client’s team. Questions are picked up quickly and support is available whenever it is needed.
Dutch coordination, international capacity
Sander Barten:
"Project coordination remains in the Netherlands, while engineering capacity can be organised internationally where required. According to the team, maintaining high quality standards is an important part of the way Middle Point Engineering works."
